BIO
Nancy’s etchings are a personal journey through loss and emotional recovery. She is best known for her sunflower pieces used as a metaphor to express these struggles, joys and hopes. Primarily using the aquatint technique of copper plate etching, Nancy ekes out strong feelings with a limited palette. Her art started as a conscious change in lifestyle due to the financial recession and a fulfillment of a lifelong dream to attend art school. At the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Nancy honed the lessons of mark making, the importance of form and shape in a composition, and the use of value and tone for the subtleties and emphasis they created. She discovered etching and her professors encouraged her to continue speaking her feelings through this expressive medium. She was born and raised in Summit, N.J. and now resides in Cambridge, MA. She is a member of the Boston Printmakers and exhibits in the Boston area and Martha’s Vineyard.

My joy with my etchings is the process I go through to depict an emotional response through my flowers. I love my hours spent thinking about how to express my concept. Sometimes it works out and sometimes not. Sometimes the “noise” from the plate (accidental scratches or marks from the acid) adds more to the image then I could have imagined . It’s even more wonderful when someone sees and feels what I see through my flowers.
