ROBERT HSIUNG

I enjoy painting a variety of subject matter – landscape, cityscape, seascape, interior, people and portraits, trying to capture the elusive moments in life and places without commentary and nostalgia. I render what I feel and see, realistically, with brushwork that echoes my background in Chinese calligraphy.

Born in China, Robert Hsiung took art lessons from an early age. He had his first solo show at age 19 when he was attending college in the US, and continued painting watercolor till his late twenties before stopping for the next 30 years to pursue his career in architecture.  Resuming painting in 1993, Robert retired in 2004 from his architectural firm and he continues to work on both his painting and teaching and practicing architecture.  He enjoys demonstrating his watercolor process and has juried numerous shows.

Robert is an award-winner in both professions: a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a Signature member of the New England Watercolor Society.  His watercolors have been shown in numerous exhibitions, solo shows and magazines, as well as in private and corporate collections.
